History Time!!

Humans are storytellers, both in art, in music, and with verbally sharing what they have seen. This is important for how cryptids came to be. We have told stories of mysterious creatures for centuries with various regional aspects to each one. We are not able to verify whether or not people, from the past and present, have actually seen mystical creatures roaming around outside. Due to bad photographs taking and bizaree interactions that sound odd on retellings. There is no easy way to prove if these creatures exist.

This is how we invented cryptozoology, the study of cryptids.

What are cryptids though? Good question! Cryptids are that can't be easily proven exist or do not exist. They are rooted in cultural tales to the point of some having legends around them. They are mythilogical beings that people believe to still be able to see present day. They come in all shapes and sizes, aquatic to mammals to reptiles to bird like. Some appear to look like how someone would describe an alien race.

Our knowledge of cryptids revolves around the nature of what we previece and story telling, its hard to pin point what was the first sighting since these creatures aren't proven to be real or not. Many cultures reference mystical creatures but people now day have no way of proving if those creatures did exist back then or if someone had falsely identified something or if their brains were playing tricks on them while under the influence of something.

However, this does not stop modern attempts at locating cryptids or people enjoying the idea that there are more creatures out in the world that we have barely touched the surface on what exactly they are. For example, National Geographic has covered an article back in 2022 on some of the more popular cryptids and what people around the world have done in the current times with the information we have.
